Black History - New York City
The political and cultural center of black American life in the 20th century has been the New York City neighborhood of Harlem. After a period of inflationary speculation, Harlem real estate prices collapsed in 1904. Eventually, Black culture flourished here, culminating in the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s. The great artistic and literary innovation that symbolized this important period in American history is evident today in this bustling neighborhood.
